((This is open to all CloudClan cats!))
It was a fine morning. Dew lined the grass, and a crisp breeze wove through the mountain air. Clouds rushed past in the blue sky above, and the faint image of the Stardust gleamed from behind the thin curtaining of clouds that blew across it. Dappled sunshine sprinkled across the wide, open mountain field that rose to form a gentle hill before falling into a small valley with a stream trickling at the bottom on the other side.
Cloudedstar rose to the top of the hill, the wind ruffling the white fur on her thick form. She smiled faintly to herself and breathed in the fresh mountain air, feeling a chill run through her pelt. There was nothing more she loved than the fresh scent of mountain air in the morning, and the soggy scent of dew that clung to rich green blades of grass that swayed in the breeze. Her milky eyes did not allow her to see, but she knew that it must be a beautiful day.
Slowly, Cloudedstar padded along the top of the hill, her paws following the dusty, worn out trail that was regularly used by cats in CloudClan. The trail lead to one of the only trees out in the field; it was a huge, twisting dead tree, and eagles liked to nest there. Cloudedstar knew it was an excellent place to hunt for eagles, and if she was lucky enough there would be some eggs there for her to snatch as well.
Cloudedstar paused, her ears rising to take in the sounds around her. She could hear the wind rushing by in a ceaseless gust, and the sound of grass rustling together and a cricket that chirped somewhere deep within the grass. Then, beneath these sounds, she heard the faint rustling of feathers and the single flap of wings. Cloudedstar felt her mouth water. There was an eagle somewhere nearby- perhaps in the tree?
She drew herself forward, knowing to keep low and within the grass. She counted her paw steps- from the rock she had been beside, it was twenty steps to the base of the tree. Cloudedstar paused when she reached fifteen, then listened again. The rustling of feathers came to her louder again, this time from somewhere above her. Cloudedstar twitched her tail tip in satisfaction. The eagle was definately in the tree, on the lowest branch, it sounded like.
With a mighty spring from her powerful legs Cloudedstar launched herself into the air, unsheathing her claws until she felt the roughness of the bark of a tree beneath her. Then, she scaled her way along until she felt the branch that was closest to the ground. Cloudedstar had been hunting here since she was an apprentice- she had been here so often it was almost as if she could see where she placed her paws. The white she-cat launched herself forward, hearing the screech of an eagle, and planted her claws into a collection of brown and white feathers. One leap was all it took for the eagle to fall to the ground. Cloudedstar's heart leapt as she began to fall, then she relaxed when she felt smooth ground beneath her paws, and the limp body of the eagle in her jaws.
Success.
